Assignment #3 Portraits

Positive or negative words can leave a lasting impression on everyone. Negative words break us down and positive words build us up. Therefore, I went with the theme/concept of words can either break us or make us. In order for my theme to relate to my portraits, I first started with each of my subject remembering a time when someone hurt his or her feelings. For instance, the first portrait the woman is holding up a sign of what someone has said negatively about her that has stayed with her to this day. After having her think of something negative, I wrote something positive about her that she might not hear everyday. I then repeated this process for each photo. Once I got done shooting each photo, I then started to edit them. I chose to edit them in black and white because I did not want the color to get in the way of what each individual had to say.
