Assignment #3 Portraits

Positive or negative words can leave a lasting impression on everyone. Negative words break us down and positive words build us up. Therefore, I went with the theme/concept of words can either break us or make us. In order for my theme to relate to my portraits, I first started with each of my subject remembering a time when someone hurt his or her feelings. For instance, the first portrait the woman is holding up a sign of what someone has said negatively about her that has stayed with her to this day. After having her think of something negative, I wrote something positive about her that she might not hear everyday. I then repeated this process for each photo. Once I got done shooting each photo, I then started to edit them. I chose to edit them in black and white because I did not want the color to get in the way of what each individual had to say. I also chose this way because I wanted a contrast between the black and white and what the piece of paper has to say. Also attached below is how I lit my scene.

    your series gives a very powerful message. i enjoyed the lighting and the choice of black and white! the only thing i think would have been cool was changing the positive messages to color represent a sort of color being lit up from the positivity.

    I really like the fact that you asked your models to say things that have actually been said to them instead of stock phrases. That really adds power, importance, and impact to these photos!

    Theses photos are done very nicely. The message of each gives your audience something that they can almost relate to. Everyone has been hurt by words but its how you over come that and know that you are worth so much more is so beautiful. I liked how you edited the photos in black and white you did an amazing job on this project!

Colorful Flowers Bring Me Joy

 One thing I do not think most people realize about me is that I love taking pictures of colorful and bright flowers. In fact, my favorite flower is a Sunflower. The reason I love sunflowers so much is because they are bright and tall. I was once told by an old friend of mine that we can learn a lesson from sunflowers. Sunflowers remind us to stand tall and shine bright. I took this picture this past summer when I visited a sunflower patch.  The picture below was taken when I went on a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico. This was my first time being outside of the United States. When we actually arrived on the land, there was many different colored flowers and buildings everywhere. The scenery was very eye opening to me because it did not look like what I was used to back home. Overall, I would definitely go back and take even more pictures than I did before. Assignment #2

  Depth of Field With this photo, I really like how the Ace of Spades stands out from the rest of the deck of cards due to the shallow depth of field. In addition, I like how once I played around with the colors it made it look like something you would see at a magic show.  At first I was not really sure how I could edit this photo to get it how I wanted it. I like how once I edited this the tree bark is more of a brown color rather than what the original picture showed. I do however like the infinite depth of field. In this photo, I really like how the icicles are sharp and in focus. In addition, I really like how the background is nice and warm feeling while the icicles and snow are very cold feeling. Overall, this picture reminds me of the beauty of the cold.  With this picture I was not really sure I could get the effect I was wanting.
