Assignment #2 Attempts

Photograph #1

The goal I was trying to accomplish with Photo #1 was I was trying to make the spark and flame from the lighter blurred. This particular picture reminds me of an advertisement you would see for a smoking campaign. When I first started editing this picture in color I had no idea how I wanted to edit it. As I got to playing around with it, I noticed that by making the hand and spark lighter it draws the focus to the blurred flame. I made the hand more of a red color and the flame more of a burning orange color. I really like how this photo turned out.

 Photograph #2

In photograph #2, I used an infinite depth of field. I wanted to emphasize just how big the main tree was, which is in the middle and show how as the picture goes on the trees keep getting smaller and smaller. When I started editing this picture, I first went to the levels tool because there was not much of contrast. The image was very bright. In addition, the original image was very cyan colored and dull. The goal I had in mind was to make the tree trunks look more of a brown color and stand out more than the rest of the image. Overall, I feel I accomplished this to some degree. However, I am not 100% satisfied yet.

Photograph #3

In photograph #3, I used a narrow depth of field. The goal I was trying to accomplish was to get the Aces of Spades to stand out from the rest of the cards. I also wanted to give off a magician vibe. I used the color balance tool to make the background more of a red or magenta color. I also darkened the table the cards where on so the white card could stand out from the black table. Overall, I really like how this picture turned out.

Photograph #4

In photograph 4, I used the shutter speed to capture this picture of my boyfriend in the air. With this picture, I was trying to edit it in a way that made the background and the subject more vibrant. I used the levels tool to add more contrast. Then, I used the color balance tool to make the image more of a cool toned picture. I am not fully satisfied with the way I edited this image. I want to go back sometime and try to make it not as bright.

Comments

  1. That photograph with the cards is pretty solid. The DOF is great, but it's also just a nicely balanced little composition. I enjoy the lighter image. It is not 100% what I think of when it comes to this assignment, but we do get a feeling of the motion of the hand igniting the lighter and the flicker of the flame. In the photo of your jumper, I would suggest you go in with your levels and slide your middle gray just a bit toward black. This might help your model's upper torso not to look quite so dark.
