Assignment #2

 Depth of Field

With this photo, I really like how the Ace of Spades stands out from the rest of the deck of cards due to the shallow depth of field. In addition, I like how once I played around with the colors it made it look like something you would see at a magic show.

At first I was not really sure how I could edit this photo to get it how I wanted it. I like how once I edited this the tree bark is more of a brown color rather than what the original picture showed. I do however like the infinite depth of field.

In this photo, I really like how the icicles are sharp and in focus. In addition, I really like how the background is nice and warm feeling while the icicles and snow are very cold feeling. Overall, this picture reminds me of the beauty of the cold.
With this picture I was not really sure I could get the effect I was wanting. However, I really like how it turned out once I got the placement of the shoes right. I like how the left shoe is in focus and the word Converse All Star is sharp looking while the right shoe is unfocused. This causes for the attention to be drawn towards the words on the left shoe. The way I edited this was to make it more of a warm feeling rather than a cold.

Motion:

I really like how the spark from the lighter is very blurry. With this picture, the main goal was to make it look like something you would see in an anti-cigarette advertisement. I used the color balance tool and make the hand and flame more of a red and yellow color which produced a burnt orange color.
With this photo, I was trying to capture the subject in mid air while he was playing in the snow. In addition, I wanted to make the background more of a cool feeling. Therefore, I used the color balance  tool and made the shadows, midtones, and highlights more of a magenta and red color.

With this picture, I went back with the idea of a magic show feel. I had my sister drop cards while I captured them in mid air. I chose to freeze the cards in mid air. Once I got around to editing this picture, I went back with the same process as before and made the background more of a magenta and red color. Overall, I think this is one of my favorites.

This picture took many attempts. The main goal of this picture was to resemble someone or something flipping the pages of a book. When editing this photo, I wanted to make the contrast a little bit darker than the original photo. Once I got my contrast to where I wanted it I went to the color balance tool. With the color balance tool, I made the shadows, midtones, and highlights a more red, magenta, and yellow toned. By doing this, I wanted to make my picture look more warm.

  2. Hannah! BRAVO on that frozen motion image of the playing cards! WOW! I can only imagine how many tries it took to get THAT right! These are all very nicely done, and a few of them (the cards on the table, the icicles, and the converse shoes) are also nice little compositions. You have a good eye for composition. Keep honing that.

  3. WOW! I love the photos! You definitely put a lot of time and effort into theses and it totally payed off. My favorite one is the lighter photo, you captured the spark so well and the way you edited it remind of a shot that would be used in a horror movie! Great work!
