I really enjoyed the different techniques we used to make a photo abstract. The photos below are a mixture between the light writing, the layering technique, and the technique we learned about in class on Monday. Within each one of these photos, I find something I really like about it. 

Extras for Assignment 3 These photos are the ones I chose to leave out for this assignment. While I find each of these good, I just did not like how the light looked on each of the subjects. The little girl was an absolute mess to shoot pictures of. She would not be still and she never failed to make funny faces. I decided to include her pictures in this because it just shows how little kids get their feelings hurt but it does not affect them as much as older individuals. 

Positive or negative words can leave a lasting impression on everyone. Negative words break us down and positive words build us up. Therefore, I went with the theme/concept of words can either break us or make us. In order for my theme to relate to my portraits, I first started with each of my subject remembering a time when someone hurt his or her feelings. For instance, the first portrait the woman is holding up a sign of what someone has said negatively about her that has stayed with her to this day. After having her think of something negative, I wrote something positive about her that she might not hear everyday. I then repeated this process for each photo. Once I got done shooting each photo, I then started to edit them. I chose to edit them in black and white because I did not want the color to get in the way of what each individual had to say. I also chose this way because I wanted a contrast between the black and white and what the piece of paper has to say. Also attached belo...

 These where some of the pictures that I captured as we were trying to play around with different lighting techniques. The goal for these pictures was to get Abbie and her surroundings to be happy. The first picture had more of a highlight on the background and not as much on Abbie. By the last picture, Abbie had a key light shining on her left side, if you look at the image as it is presented. Then on the other side a fill light was placed to still lit to cast a not so bright light on the other side of her face. Then finally a back light was placed directly behind her to make her pop out against the background. The last picture gives off a happy and bright vibe. 

When we talked about Jill Greenberg in class, I really liked how she composed her images. The way she had her lights set on her subject and how she placed each of her subject just appealed to me. After class, I went and researched some of her other works. As I was looking, I found a particular liking to her collection of pieces titled Silhouette. These particular images capture individuals in black and white. The way the key light shines on the subjects face brightens that particular side while the other is very shadowy. In addition, the background of each of these images all look white which gives a contrast between the background and the subject. Attached below are some of her works from this particular collection.   Depth of Field With this photo, I really like how the Ace of Spades stands out from the rest of the deck of cards due to the shallow depth of field. In addition, I like how once I played around with the colors it made it look like something you would see at a magic show.  At first I was not really sure how I could edit this photo to get it how I wanted it. I like how once I edited this the tree bark is more of a brown color rather than what the original picture showed. I do however like the infinite depth of field. In this photo, I really like how the icicles are sharp and in focus. In addition, I really like how the background is nice and warm feeling while the icicles and snow are very cold feeling. Overall, this picture reminds me of the beauty of the cold.  With this picture I was not really sure I could get the effect I was wanting.
